Spectrum news: 2026 calendar

Maui Humane Society announced its 2026 calendar contest, which will feature animals cuddling with first responders.

Last year’s MHS calendar contest was a major success, according to MHS, and this year Maui firefighters and lifeguards will be joined by police officers to pose with owned and adoptable pets in black-and-white photographs.

The calendar photoshoots will include members of the Hawaii Fire Fighters Association, Hawaii Government Employees Association, and State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers, according to a news release.

The nonprofit is inviting Maui pet owners to compete to have their pets included in the calendar. There are two ways to compete.

First, animal owners may take part by purchasing a photoshoot slot to enter the competition, plus one exclusive slot for the calendar cover photo. The contest will include all photographed pets (except for the “buy now” cover photo), and the top 12 will be featured in the 2026 calendar. Photoshoots will take place Aug. 6-8, 2025, at the University of Hawaii Maui College.

Next, people everywhere are invited to vote for the top 12 photos of animal and rescuer duos, and the winners will be included in the calendar. The voting period will take place from Aug. 19 to Sept. 7, 2025.

Proceeds from the calendar, photoshoots, and voting contest will benefit the Maui Humane Society.

“The partnership between Maui Humane Society and our island’s first responders celebrates the heroes in our community — both human and animal,” said Kathleen Hogarty, Director of Development at Maui Humane Society. “This year’s calendar fundraiser honors those who keep us safe and the pets who look up to them with unconditional love.”
