Lanai Cat Sanctuary and Maui Humane Society partner to house Lahaina cats
BISSELL Pet Foundation is bringing hope to homeless pets this holiday season with its “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” event from Dec. 1 – 17, 2023. On Maui, The Maui Humane Society is participating in the adoption event and is offering reduced adoption fees on all animals during the event.

The promotion runs Nov. 1 through Dec. 31. Funds from the program will be evenly distributed to three local nonprofits, with each nonprofit eligible for up to $15,000 in donations, including Maui Humane Society.
The kennel capacity for dogs at the Maui Humane Society has risen to a critical level, and the organization has issued an SOS for temporary foster homes.
The Maui Humane Society is urgently seeking temporary foster homes for dogs, with its kennels currently full with as many dogs doubled up as possible.
The five-year-old male feline survived Maui’s devastating Lahaina fires in August and lived in his neighborhood, which was considered a fire zone, for about a month before being picked up by Maui Humane Society rescuers.
“Diana had nowhere to take him back to, so she signed him over to Maui Humane Society, providing the path for him to move forward for adoption,” Smith said. “Then, I officially adopted him, giving me the ability to bring him to FieldHaven, where we will find him just the right home with a family who will cherish him as much as his Maui one did.”
Tepatasi cried when the rescuers called her with the news. Then, there was a tearful reunion when her beloved kitty was in her arms at last. Their story is helping heal hearts for so many others who have endured so much anguish after the Lahaina fires.
