Hawaii Wildfire Update: Map Shows Where Fire on Maui Is Spreading

Wildfires whipped up by strong winds continue to rage in Maui, Hawaii, as residents seek shelter and authorities instruct citizens to avoid numerous areas and roadways. The Maui Humane Society, located in Puunene, has posted multiple times on Facebook about preparing its kennels and keeping its animals safe as the situation unfolds. Staff and volunteers remain on standby.

Fire Department calling for immediate evacuation of Kulalani Drive and Circle subdivision

The American Red Cross is staffing an emergency shelter at Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani. Evacuees are reminded that emergency shelters do not provide bedding, toiletries and personal care items. Evacuees are reminded to bring any medications and pet food. Pet owners utilizing the shelter need to have pets properly restrained. The Maui Humane Society is providing support for the shelter.

‘A world where no old dog dies alone and afraid’

You may not be able to teach an old dog new tricks, but the senior pups at the Maui humane society are receiving lots of treats! A recent grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization announced that out of almost 400 applicants, the Maui Humane Society was among the winning groups, set to receive over $800,000 in grants to save or improve the lives of at-risk senior dogs.

If you’re looking for a buddy who can make you laugh and keep you active, consider Odie. Odie is a large mixed breed pup who is just over one year old and he brings 60 pounds of love with him. Odie knows basic commands and has been training at Dog’s Choice. His training will continue after his adoption as he has a GoodPup scholarship. That means he is sponsored for virtual one-on-one training so he can be the goodest boy possible.

Children’s sing-along book author and vocalist Bridget Burton (pen name) known in her community as Barbara Burton Graf, just published her second children’s book “Annie Kai Lani Kai Lou: Maui’s Beloved Pup”. This newly published book is set in Maui and in tandem with the launch, Burton will be donating a percentage of the sales to the Maui Humane Society (MHS).
