Maui Humane Society is urgently requesting the community’s help to provide temporary homes for dogs. Maui Humane Society currently has 120 dogs in their care and has kennel capacity for 40 dogs. Dogs are being paired in kennels to make additional space. 30 SOS Fosters are needed immediately to help decrease the dog population at the shelter.

Maui Humane Society reportedly receives about five lost pet claims every day. That’s upwards of 1,800 lost dogs at Maui’s shelter a year. To curb those numbers, the nonprofit has partnered with PetHub, a modern pet identification system out of Washington state, to distribute specialized pet tags that owners can add to their animal’s collar.

There is still time to fundraise for Maui Humane Society’s Wags to Riches event! The event is back for its third year and encourages the community to raise funds for Maui’s homeless animals. The people who fundraise the most will get to stay at a luxury resort on Maui and will be accompanied by a shelter dog from the Maui Humane Society on April 29th. The top fundraisers will be announced on April 28 at noon.
KHON2: Maui Humane Society uses PetHub to ensure your pet comes home
For Maui dog owners who recently received their new 2023/2024 dog license in the mail, the digital tag must be activated online. “The amount of stray dogs that we have enter our shelter every single day is unbelievable. It’s just every animal wearing a collar with some type of ID we would immediately be able to reunite them with their family,” said Jennifer Goguen, Maui Humane Society.
