The shelter is overcapacity due to the high surrender and stray intake rates that spiked because of the pandemic. There are currently more than 500 animals under the care of the Humane Society. That is 25% more compared to the same month last year.

SENIOR DOGS AT MAUI HUMANE SOCIETY FETCH GRANT
Old dogs have something to wag about this summer, as The Grey Muzzle Organization announces the recipients of its annual grants, and dogs at Maui Humane Society are among the winners. MHS has received $10,000 specifically to help the medical and dental needs of senior dogs.
Maui Humane Society on Maui is one of 77 animal welfare groups chosen from 266 applicants to receive a grant to help local senior dogs. The winning groups received more than $616,000 in grants to help save or improve the lives of at-risk old dogs in their communities.
